Description
The stables at Ravenswood were built around 1864 and extensively remodeled in 1895 by Robert Lorimer. This single-storey and attic structure features a three-bay, U-shaped stable range and offices, with overhanging, bracketed eaves surrounding a covered central courtyard and timber stalls at the rear. The building is constructed from stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone rubble, with polished ashlar dressings.
Inside, there is a run of timber stalls with a piended roof at the rear, which includes prominent timber louvred ridge ventilators. A wall with a moulded coping and cast-iron railing connects the stalls to the U-shaped office range, creating a secondary courtyard. There is also a mounting step.
The windows are fitted with astragalled plate glass in timber frame sash and case designs. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there is a ridge stack to the north and a tall wallhead stack breaking the eaves to the south. The building features cast-iron rainwater goods.
