Description

South Lodge at Drygrange House is a two-storey lodge built in 1889 by C G H Kinnear and later remodeled by James Spiers in 1905. It features a cross-plan layout and showcases 17th century Scots Revival detailing, situated on a sloping site. The exterior is made of polished cream sandstone ashlar with raised cills.

On the west elevation, which is the principal facade, there is a bolection-moulded door located off-centre in a canted entrance bay. To the left, a tripartite window includes a single light at the return of the canted bays, which is corbelled above. The north elevation has a three-light canted window. A prominent sculpted heraldic panel with a pediment is centered on the facade, inscribed with "et industria probitate." At the rear, there is a timber single-storey addition.

The first-floor windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing, while the ground floor features leaded replacement glazing. The lodge has steep-pitched slate roofs with crowstepped gables and beaked skewputts. There is a tall square stack at the center and a secondary stack in the southeast angle, both topped with moulded copings. The building is equipped with cast-iron rainwater goods.

The property is enclosed by gates, gatepiers, and quadrant walls. There are four square ashlar gatepiers with panelled designs, where the outer pair are free-standing and corniced, and the center pair display heraldic panels. The entrance features cast iron gates and railings, and the driveway is paved with stone setts.
