Description
The Buccleuch Centre, located at 4 South Hermitage Street on the corner with Union Street, was attributed to architect James Burnet and built in 1896. This two-storey, three-bay former clubhouse features a gabled roof, a central doorway with pilasters, and bracketed eaves. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone with polished ashlar dressings and includes a base course.
The windows are regularly spaced and have raised margins, with stone-mullioned bipartite windows in the right-hand bay and raised quoin strips on the corners. Access to the central timber-panelled front door is via three steps, and the door is flanked by sidelights, set within a deep pilastered architrave. A bracketed clock is positioned to the outer right of the entrance.
The windows are fitted with four-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, and there are corniced gablehead stacks. The roof is covered with grey slate.
