Melrose Bridge is a single-carriageway, hump-backed bridge built between 1754 and 1762. It features two 80-foot arches and a central v-splayed cutwater that spans the River Tweed. The bridge is constructed from squared and snecked red sandstone rubble, with dressed sandstone voussoirs and buttressed approaches. It has a coped parapet that includes square, recessed pedestrian refuges.
