Description
11 Currie Street in Duns is an early 19th-century, symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay house, which has a later porch and is adjoined at the rear by another house, No 12. The building is constructed from dressed cream sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings.
The southwest elevation facing Currie Street features a three-bay design. At the center, there is a square, flat-roofed porch with a cornice and blocking course. The porch has a Tuscan Doric pilastered doorpiece that includes a flush-panelled door and a decorative glazing pattern in the fanlight above. The flanking bays on the ground floor have tripartite windows, while each first-floor bay has a window. The elevation is topped with a modillioned cornice and a low parapet that is raised at the center.
On the southeast elevation, there is a gable to the left that has a pair of blocked windows on the first floor. The angles of the gable feature a clasping cornice. To the right, there is a single bay set back with a window on each floor.
The northwest elevation shows a gable to the right with No 12 adjoining on the left. To the left of the gable, there is a later back door and a window on the ground floor, along with a window on the first floor.
The northeast (rear) elevation has No 12 adjoining on the right, and to the left, there are blocked or blind windows on both floors.
The house features timber sash and case windows, with 12-pane windows on the front. The roof is covered in grey slates, with brick stacks at the apex and ashlar coped skews.
The front wall includes a low ashlar wall with saddleback coping and spearhead railings. There are square ashlar gatepiers with chamfered arrises, a base course, and flattened pyramidal caps.
