Description

The building is a single-storey addition, cartshed, and granary located at Whitecross, dating from the later 19th century with subsequent additions and alterations. It features a two-storey, nine-bay (seven-bay at the first floor) rectangular-plan cartshed that is built into a hillside, with a forestair leading to the former granary on the first floor. The structure is constructed from heavily-pointed sandstone rubble, with some brick repairs, and has sandstone dressings. Notable architectural details include tooled quoins and long and short surrounds to the openings, stop-chamfered cart openings, and projecting cills.

On the north elevation, there is a boarded timber stable door at ground level in the penultimate bay to the outer right, flanked by boarded windows in the adjacent bays. A boarded timber stable door is located in the subsequent bay to the left. There are segmental-arched cart openings in the remaining five bays at ground level to the left, and regularly spaced, squat boarded openings at the upper floor. The forestair is recessed to the outer left, and a single-storey addition is recessed to the outer right.

The east side elevation features a gable end with a forestair leading to a centrally located boarded timber door at the first floor. There is an adjoining wall to the left.

The south rear elevation consists of a single-storey, seven-bay structure built into the hillside, with regularly spaced, squat boarded openings in all bays. There is a single-storey addition to the outer left and a coped wall recessed to the outer right.

The west side elevation has a gable end with a single-storey addition offset to the right of centre, and a boarded timber door is centered at the first floor.

The roof is covered with grey slate and features stone-coped skews, along with a squat brick-built stack on the west side. The interior was not seen in 1999.
