Description
St Vincent's College Chapel, located on Middlepenny Road in Langbank, is a Gothic-style chapel built in 1931. It features an apsed, rectangular plan and is constructed from bull-faced sandstone that is squared and snecked, with a base course and gablet capped buttresses.
The east elevation has a semi-crowstepped gable and a stone porch that projects at the center, leading up a flight of stone steps flanked by a parapet. The pointed arch doorway is supported by angled semi-buttresses, and above it is a carved panel that emerges through the swept parapet, topped with a cross finial and flanked by gablet coped pilasters. Above the doorway, there is a large three-light pointed arch window featuring stylised tracery and a hoodmould. A niche in the gablehead contains a statue of Jesus Christ, with another cross finial above it. The ground level has narrow lights flanking the center, which have cusped heads and segmental hoodmoulds, with carved crosses in low relief above.
The west elevation features a canted apse with dividing buttresses and lancet windows, topped with a polygonal roof.
On the north elevation, there are six bays. The outer left has a battered projection with a small two-light, square-headed window and a moulded parapet, which likely contains a stair to the undercroft. The center bay has three-light cusped windows, with two additional bays to the left of center. A gabled transept projects from the penultimate right, featuring a two-light window and a square-headed window on the return at the undercroft level. The outer right has a blank bay of the apse.
The chapel has lead-pane glazing, although the larger east and west windows have been blocked. It is roofed with green slates and has overhanging eaves. The interior was not seen in 1995.
