Description

The Episcopal Chapel at Rosebery House Policies, built in 1913, is an early Gothic chapel constructed from coursed, pink sandstone ashlar. It features a base course, pointed arched door and window openings with chamfered edges, and hoodmoulds adorned with carved floreate drip stones. The chapel has an eaves cornice, angle buttresses, and gableted skewputts.

On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, the façade is symmetrical with a pointed arched doorway that includes triple nook shafts. The doorway has a studded, boarded timber door fitted with elaborate strap hinges and door handles dated "1913." To the left of the door, there is an ironwork bracket for a bell, which is currently missing. Above the door, a traceried window is present, along with a louvred pointed arched opening set in the gablehead and a sandstone cross at the apex.

The southeast elevation is asymmetrical, featuring three buttressed bays. The central and left bays contain traceried windows, while a boarded timber door to the basement is flanked by a window on the left and accessed by stone steps. The right bay has a window.

The northeast elevation is symmetrical with a large traceried window at the center, a louvred circular opening in the gablehead, and a square plan bellcote at the apex, which also has a missing bell.

The northwest elevation is asymmetrical, consisting of three buttressed bays with traceried windows in the center and right bays, and a window in the left bay.

The chapel is adorned with diamond pane leaded windows and has a graded grey slate roof with coped stone skews. A shouldered, corniced wallhead stack is located to the right of the southwest gable, and cast iron rainwater goods are present.

Inside, the chapel features coursed polished ashlar, with nookshafts flanking the northeast window that has a hood mould and carved label stops. The interior also boasts an elaborately carved timber cornice and a ribbed timber barrel vaulted ceiling.
