Description

This building, including the courtyard walls and Long Barns 1, 2, and 3 at Castle Semple, dates from the late 18th century. It is a long, single-storey structure that is largely symmetrical in design, originally serving as estate offices, and features two-storey square-plan towers at both the east and west ends. As of 2011, it has been converted into housing. The exterior is constructed from whinstone rubble with ashlar margins, showcasing some pointed-arched door and window openings alongside rectangular openings. The east and west towers have a consoled cornice, with the west tower featuring an ashlar western elevation and a large pointed-arch opening that has a trefoil opening above it, flanked by pointed-arch openings with moulded surrounds. There are also some dormers that rise above the wallhead on the north elevation.

The building has predominantly non-traditional replacement windows, but there is a single timber sash and case window on the upper storey at the northeast corner, which includes timber Y-tracery. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a round stack on the east side.

The courtyard features coped rubble walls to the north, which include square gatepiers to the west.

Inside, which was partially seen in 2011, the building has been converted into three dwellings and contains predominantly later interior features.
