Description

Walled enclosure dating to the late 17th century (see REFERENCES) at SE of house. S wall parallel to road, N wall steps, with dovecote at lower E corner, and 2 outbuildings built, probably early 19th century, along the line of the wall further W towards Lethangie House. Flat-arched entrance to walled garden with wide raised droved margins and boarded door S of dovecote in E wall.

DOVECOTE: large 17th century square-plan dovecote, rubble built, with ashlar quoins and dressings; distinctively rounded SE angle; slated pyramid roof with 19th century triangular timber doo-entry facing S, with 6 rows of flight holes , and applied curvilinear bargeboards; wrought-iron fleur-de-lis apex finial; boarded door to left on N wall.

INTERIOR: central timber column (potence for revolving ladders) in situ; full-height nesting boxes line 4 walls.

OUTBUILDINGS: built probably early 19th century, along N wall of walled garden to W:

EAST CART SHED BLOCK: single storey and loft; rubble with droved margins; 3-bays to N; with boarded vehicular door on sliding track at wide left-hand bay. 2 flat-arched cart arches centre and right at ground. 3 loft openings close up at eaves over, centre opening larger with 2-leaf boarded doors; other 2 and 3 S facing loft openings with louvered shutters. Raggle lines of now demolished buildings formerly attached at E and W gables.

W BLOCK: single storey and loft; rubble with droved ashlar dressings and ashlar skews. Roof replaced (corrugated iron). Variety of openings, altered to N, original openings to S. W gable with blocked door central at ground, single window with square hoodmould over, with 2-pane glazing
