Description
Dated 1877, Keppoch House Hotel is a two-storey, three-bay gabled villa. It is constructed of bull-faced red ashlar, with contrasting droved ashlar dressings. A base course is present. The windowheads on the first floor are roll-moulded, and the mullions have stop-chamfered arrises.
The south-east (principal) elevation features a central bay with a prominent doorpiece, a stone-bracketed shoulder-arched hood with a slate roof, a monogrammed semicircular pediment, a deep-set timber door, and a deep plate glass fanlight. Above, a keystoned semicircular-headed window breaks the eaves. Flanking the central bay are finialled gabled bays; the bay to the right has a slightly advanced tripartite window to each floor, while the bay to the left features full-height canted windows.
The south-west elevation has a gabled bay centrally, with a door at ground level (formerly a window), a single window above, and further windows to each floor of the flanking bays. The first floor windows of the flanking bays break the eaves into finialled dormerheads.
The north-east elevation has a centre gable with a small window at the centre and a stair window above, with a further window in the bay to the right.
The north-west (rear) elevation displays a variety of elements across single-storey lean-to bays at ground level, including a pedimented timber door offset to the right and a taller gabled projection to the outer right. The first floor has a narrow window to the gabled centre bay and another window to the left, which breaks the eaves into a dormer gablet.
The windows are timber sash and case, with 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns. A four-part stair window incorporates coloured margins. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, with fishscale details to the half piends over the advanced bays. Small, modern rooflights are also present. The building has coped and shouldered ashlar stacks topped with cans. The eaves overhang, supported by brackets. Cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers (dated), fixings and finials are in place.
The interior includes decorative plasterwork cornices and ceiling roses, a timber-balustered dog-leg staircase, and a screen door with glazed flanking lights.
An ancillary structure, with a piend roof and rectangular plan, is present, featuring two doors and a window facing south-east.
The property is enclosed by low, saddleback-coped rubble boundary walls, incorporating decorative cast-iron railings and high semicircular-coped boundaries. Low, pyramidally-coped, square-section ashlar gatepiers mark the entrances.
