Description

St Andrew Lodge, located at 5 King Street, is an early to mid 19th-century building that stands three stories tall. The ground floor features a shop at No 7, while the upper floors house a two-bay Masonic lodge. The King Street elevation is finished in painted render, while the eastern side is harled. The building has a base course and an eaves cornice.

The principal elevation facing King Street shows No 5 on the far left, which has a single bay with a pilastered doorpiece that features console brackets and a cornice, topped with small corner pediments. The entrance consists of an 8-panel, two-leaf timber door with fanlights above. To the right, there is a round-arched niche. Above this is a pilastered bay with two-light, coloured glass windows on each floor, supported by timber mullions.

No 7 has a symmetrical shop front with a central recessed part-glazed door and a fanlight above. The outer bays are framed by broad pilasters with projecting console brackets, and there is a fascia with a projecting dentilled cornice. The windows have timber mullions and divided transom lights, while the upper storey features pilasters that separate the bays and a large central timber mullioned and transomed window.

On the Canal Crescent elevation, there is a central pointed-arched timber boarded opening on the upper floor. To the left, a timber pilastered shop front includes stall risers and a corniced fascia.

The building exhibits a variety of glazing patterns, with plate glass on the ground floor and 18-pane fixed glazing on the upper floor window. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are gablehead stacks.

The interior of No 7 has been comprehensively modernised.
