Description

The garage and game larders at Hallyburton Estate were likely designed by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1903, possibly incorporating elements from the mid-19th century, with alterations made in the later 20th century. The structure is a two-storey garage with a piend roof and a dwelling above, accessed by a dog-leg staircase leading to a pedimented door. It is constructed from roughly squared snecked rubble, featuring irregular long and short work quoins. The openings are segmental-arched and include relieving arches.

On the southwest elevation, there is a two-leaf garage door on the left, accompanied by a horizontally-aligned four-part window that sits just below the eaves under a swept roofline. To the right, there are similar garage doors and a square-headed pedestrian door within single-storey bays. The northwest elevation features the staircase and a panelled timber door.

The windows include a multi-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case, casement, and fixed styles, with grey slate roofing. The door pediment is ashlar-coped and has moulded skews, while the doors are fitted with Arts and Crafts style hinges and bargeboarding.

Adjacent to the northeast elevation of the garage are two small, free-standing game larders with pavilion roofs and square plans. These are constructed from vertical timber and feature windows on each side, with deeply overhanging eaves. Each elevation has two bipartite windows, and one window has been replaced by a door on the entrance elevation, which is meshed externally and barred internally. The interiors of the game larders include fixed shelves on three sides and hanging hooks.
