Description
Aberfeldy Distillery, built in 1896 with a still house added in 1965, is a tall two-storey rectangular building complex that serves as a distillery. It features a pagoda kiln, former bonded warehouses, and a red brick stalk. The structure is made from chlorite-slate rubble with squared rubble quoins and slab lintels.
On the north elevation facing Dunkeld Road, the pagoda kiln is positioned to the right of the center and has various small altered openings at both the ground and first floors, along with a large window in the center and two smaller windows near the eaves. To the left, there is a long range with nearly symmetrical fenestrated bays that include small horizontal openings on the first floor, and further asymmetrical bays to the right of the kiln, leading to a flat-roofed still house.
The east elevation features a broad M-gabled design with two windows on each floor and additional windows in each gable head.
The south elevation has mostly regular openings similar to those on the north but also includes some timber doors, an oversailing stair leading to a first-floor door, and a stone forestair to another door at the outer right. The pagoda kiln is located to the left, showcasing a large altered doorway and two small square windows near the eaves. Beyond the kiln, there are asymmetrically-fenestrated bays, including a projecting gabled bay on the outer left and a slightly lower harled range in the re-entrant angle. The stalk is situated beyond this to the outer left.
The west elevation contains later structures. The glazing is primarily small-pane in modern hardwood frames, and the roof is covered with grey slates featuring large vertically-astragalled rooflights.
Inside, notable features include a kingpost roof supported by cast-iron columns in the Visitor's Centre, a stainless steel mash tun from 1995, Siberian larch washbacks, copper stills, and traditional wash and spirit safes.
The stalk is a banded, coped red brick circular structure. The ancillary buildings, which were formerly bonded warehouses and stores, consist of a two-storey, six-bay rectangular-plan range with a slate roof and gabled design located to the southeast and running north-south. This building is also made from chlorite-slate rubble with ashlar dressings. The north elevation of these ancillary buildings has a variety of openings at the ground level and three windows in each gable at the first floor.
