Description
The Parish Church in Abernyte dates back to 1672 and was rebuilt in 1736 by designer and builder David Smart from Dundee. It underwent repairs in 1810 and again around 1836 to 1837. The church has a T-plan layout and is constructed from rubble with square-headed openings that feature margins. The transepts have 3-light windows, with the center light raised. The building was re-roofed, showcasing good carpentry at the crossing. It includes a porch and a bellcote, while the chancel has triple lancets with trefoil-headed Gothic windows that were inserted into the original openings. The church was further worked on by T.S. Robertson of Edward and Robertson from Dundee in 1870.
