Description

Little Arion is a mid-19th century house that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical rectangular-plan building with a flat-roofed single-bay, single-storey addition on the left and L-plan outbuildings extending from the rear. The exterior is finished with cement harling, and the first-floor windows have concrete cills that hug the eaves.

On the east (principal) elevation, there is a deep-set boarded door with a letterbox fanlight located in the central bay, with a window above it on the first floor. Each bay has a window on both floors, and to the right of the central door, there is a modern part-glazed door with a window in the addition to the outer left.

The north (side) elevation features a window offset to the right on each floor, with a gablehead stack above. The south (side) elevation has an advanced blank single-storey wall of the addition spanning the ground floor, with a window offset to the left on the first floor and a gablehead stack above.

On the west (rear) elevation, there is a small window at the first floor in the central bay, with a single-storey outbuilding projecting from the bay to the left. There is also a window at ground level in the bay to the right, and a two-bay addition to the outer right, featuring a window in each bay, offset to the left.

The house predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with timber-framed windows on the rear, sides, and addition. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a stone ridge, while the addition has a modern felt covering. The gablehead stacks are harled with cornices, and uPVC rainwater goods are installed.

The interior was not seen in 1997.

There are also ancillary structures, including a single-storey rubble L-plan outbuilding range that projects from the rear of the main house, forming a small courtyard. This includes a modern concrete-block addition to the south, with boarded doors and small timber-framed windows. The outbuilding has a stone-slated roof with a stone ridge, while the southern addition has a corrugated-iron roof.

In front of the house, there are square-plan rubble gatepiers with flat stone copes, and a rubble wall that forms a rectangular garden to the east.
