Description
The Lyness Air Raid Shelter, built around 1939, is located in the open landscape of the former Royal Naval base at Lyness. This U-shaped structure features an earthwork covering and is constructed from pre-cast sectional shuttered concrete, with some areas of corrugated metal sheeting and an earth roof. Brick and concrete retaining walls lead to the entrance and exit.
During an interior inspection in 2013, it was noted that there are two entrances leading into a small central rectangular chamber, with painted directional arrows on the walls.
