Description
23 and 25 Dundas Street in Stromness are a pair of near-symmetrical houses built in the earlier to mid-19th century, with later alterations. They are three stories tall and have a rectangular plan. The gabled elevation faces the street, and they are adjacent to a two-storey, three-bay house to the left. The buildings are constructed from roughly coursed rubble with harl-pointed finishes and cement margins around the openings, featuring an eaves course.
On the south elevation, the principal entrance is a deep-set modern part-glazed timber panelled door located in the central bay, with a window above it on each floor. The left bay also has a window at each floor, while the right bay features another modern part-glazed timber panelled door at ground level, with windows above.
The east elevation facing Dundas Street has a two-bay gabled wall with a blocked window in the center. There is a window in the chamfered bay to the left and a window on each floor above it. The right bay includes a tall stair window at ground level, with additional windows above and a gablehead stack.
The houses have replacement 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with a stone ridge, concrete skews, harled and coped gablehead stacks, and uPVC rainwater goods. The interior was not seen as of 1997.
