Description
Sule Skerry Lighthouse, designed by D A Stevenson, was completed in 1893 and lighted in 1895. It is a five-stage circular-plan lighthouse tower built on a plinth, featuring an oversized lantern. The structure is made of painted brick. A stone flight leads to the canted plinth, which has a window on each side. There is a door at the first stage and small-pane windows at the second, third, and fourth stages. A cantilevered walkway with cast-iron railings connects the fourth stage to the lantern. The tower has evenly spaced portholes below the lantern, and the large, glazed lantern has a domed roof topped with a short weather vane. The interior was not seen in 1997.
