Bound Skerry Lighthouse, Bound Skerry, Out Skerries

Bound Skerry Lighthouse, located in Out Skerries, was designed by David and Thomas Stevenson and built between 1857 and 1858. This seven-stage lighthouse tower has a circular plan and tapers towards the lantern at the top. The base is made of bull-faced ashlar, while the tower walls and margins are finished with smooth render, all of which is painted.

Access to the lighthouse is via a recessed ladder that leads to a deeply recessed door on the west side. Each stage of the tower features a narrow window, with the second floor having a wider window. There is a band course below a balcony that is corbelled out to support a cast iron handrail surrounding the upper stage. This upper stage consists of a cylindrical murette with portholes and a door. Above the lantern, there is a cast-iron cleaning path with triangular-pane glazing, topped by a dome that has a ventilator at its apex.
