Description

This mid-19th century farm cottage, also known as a bothy, is a single-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan. It features a single-storey, rectangular-plan store or byre that is positioned at right angles to the northeast, creating an L-shaped group. Additionally, there is a small, single-storey store located to the west of the main group. The building is constructed from roughly coursed squared rubble, with a stone eaves course and windows that are set close under the eaves. The end walls are gabled.

The bothy section has harl-pointed rubble. On the north, or principal elevation, there is a boarded door at the center, flanked by a single window, although the windows are currently missing. A corniced gablehead chimneystack is located on the west gable. The interior, as seen in 1998, includes a large fireplace at the west end with a massive stone lintel, a storage niche to the right, and a wall press with intact timber shelves set to the right in the east gable. The roof is timber-framed with exposed tie beams.

The byre or store features a large boarded sliding door in the north gable, with a window above it. The west elevation has a boarded door to the right of center, and there is a window in the gablehead of the south gable. The building has fixed four-pane timber-framed windows, which are broken, and a corrugated-iron roof. The interior was not seen in 1998.

The store has a south gable with a centered boarded door and a turf roof supported by individual anchor stones. The interior of the store was also not seen in 1998.
