Description
Craigneuk, located at 9 Glencairn Avenue in Wishaw, is a former gatehouse built in the earlier to mid 19th century, designed in the Jacobethan style reminiscent of William Burn. The building has a gabled, rectangular plan and features paired octagonal chimney stacks at the ridge and front wallhead, with an advanced gabled bay at the center.
Constructed from yellow ashlar sandstone in narrow courses, the exterior includes pointed arch openings with carved spandrels, square-headed moulded reveals, and stugged hoodmoulds. The gableheads are adorned with square cavetto moulded panels, and stone mullions are present throughout.
On the south (principal) elevation, there is an advanced full-height gabled bay at the center with a tripartite window and small windows to the left return. This bay is linked to a gabled porch on the right, which has a door in a depressed arch opening and a small window to the right return. The outer right features a battered wallhead chimney, while a small window is located on the outer left.
The north (rear) elevation has a small advanced gabled bay at the center, with windows to the left and right. The east (side) and west (side) elevations each feature a bipartite window at the center.
The roof has saw-tooth coped skews with spur finials, covered in grey slates, and includes bracketed skewputts, lead flashing, and towering octagonal ashlar stacks with moulded coping. The building also has cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 2000.
