Description
This former toll-house, built in 1813, is a single-storey, three-bay structure with a rectangular plan and a gabled roof. It features a semicircular-columned porch with a sloping roof, made from yellow ashlar sandstone. The building has a base course and a cornice with a cavetto moulding.
On the west (principal) elevation, there is a two-leaf door at the center, accessed by steps leading up to the advanced semicircular porch. This porch is supported by four plain Doric columns that hold up an entablature and the roof. The flanking bays have bipartite windows with stone mullions, projecting sills, and penticed stone canopies.
The east (rear) elevation is completely obscured by a modern addition that includes full-length box dormers. The north (side) elevation is harled, while the south (side) elevation has a single harled window.
The front features plate glass timber sash and case windows, while the side and rear have modern glazing. The front roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a box dormer at the rear. The gable ends have harled surfaces and coped stone stacks, with cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 2000.
