Arts Centre, Lamlash, Arran

The Arts Centre in Lamlash, Arran, built in 1885, is designed in the Early English style. It features cream sandstone polished ashlar dressings alongside pale brown sandstone courses. The eastern bay is narrower than the five western bays, and there is a stone spire located in the southeast re-entrant angle.

The east elevation showcases an arched and gableted central porch with a trefoil head and gableted buttresses. There is a plain tympanum above, with small lancets on either side and full-height buttresses beyond. Above these, a three-light lancet window is present, along with a small cinquefoil window in the gablehead. Both the lancets and the cinquefoil window are adorned with hoodmoulds. The spire features two-stage buttresses at its base, a single lancet at ground level, and a tall Y-traceried window on the first floor, topped with a gablet that has a triple blind lancet in its head. A frieze at the top of the tower includes inset panels, a cornice, and a square pyramidal spire with lucarnes and an iron weathervane. The south side of the tower and spire mirrors the front, while the north and east sides have the upper part of the tower cut by the roof. The body of the church consists of five bays, each separated by prominent gabletted buttresses that contain lancets. The roof is slated and features three slated louvered ventilators on each slope. The west end and interior have not been seen.
