Description
Pier House and Clock Tower in Lamlash, Arran, was designed by engineer Thomas D Weir and dates from 1885. This single-storey building has a rectangular plan and features a clock tower at the southwest corner. It is constructed of coursed red sandstone rubble, with bull-faced and margined ashlar quoins at the angles and openings, and has a piended slate roof with deep eaves.
On the west elevation, there are multi-pane French windows with sidelights set in a large opening at the center, while the clock tower is positioned to the right. Each side of the tower has a clock face set in a recessed panel, with the southern face dated. The tower has a squat pyramidal roof topped with a weathervane finial.
The south elevation includes a window at the base of the tower on the left and another window formed from an opening on the right. The east elevation features two 4-pane windows, while the north elevation is blank. The interior has not been seen.
