Description

Noddsdale House is a large, asymmetrical house built around 1902, designed by James Millar, with alterations and additions made around 1911, also by Millar. The house is largely harled externally, with accents of ashlar, brick, and timber framing. It is mostly two storeys high with attics.

The west elevation is symmetrically planned, consisting of three bays, with an addition to the left. It features long, mullioned windows. A wide, inner bay projects and is gabled, constructed of mannered random rubble with Tudor-arched lights at ground floor level. Above, brickwork is set within a timber frame, displaying a patterned design. The first floor exhibits embryo jettying, and long windows flank a sundial. A small, canted attic oriel is present, with a gable head projecting above decorative barge boards. A porch projects diagonally from the left re-entrant angle, leading to a door set within an architrave. The right bay is tile hung above a canted ground floor window, and first floor windows in the outer bays break through the eaves. A timber-framed wing extends to the left, with the north gable being jettied on brackets at the first floor level. Two additional gables are present on the north elevation, alongside a door featuring a bronze ship's bell, inscribed "Lord of the Isles." The south elevation is characterised by twin gables.

An L-shaped wing projects from the east wall of the main house, forming a courtyard and incorporating a crenellated, octagonal turret in the re-entrant angle. Stacks are rectangular, diamond or grouped, and constructed from harled or brick materials. The building is covered with tiled roofs of various levels.

The interior includes some decorative wooden panelling.
