Schoolhouse, Carinish Primary School, North Uist

Carinish Primary School, located in North Uist, was designed by architect Alexander Ross of Inverness and built around 1875. The building consists of a school and an adjoining schoolhouse, both constructed from whitewashed rubble.

The east elevation features the school on the right and the house on the left. The school has a prominent gable near the center, which includes a three-light classroom window and an oculus above it. To the right, there is a tall window topped with a gabled dormer head, and the roofs slope down over a porch in the re-entrant angle. Additionally, there is a two-light window in the north gable.

The schoolhouse is a single-storey structure with an attic, comprising two bays and a single attic window with a gabled dormer head. The openings are square-headed, with sash windows that have lying-pane glazing. The building features end and axial stacks, along with an axial vent over the school. The roofs are covered with slate, and there are modern additions at the rear.
