Description
Fiddichside Inn is a rural public house built in 1842, with a small flat-roofed extension added in the late 20th century. It is a largely unaltered single-storey and attic building with a rectangular plan, featuring three bays. The inn is situated next to the Bridge of Fiddich on elevated ground, overlooking a terraced garden by the riverbank. The tiny bar retains original fittings by A & R Dunbar from around 1920. The exterior is harled with deep-set openings.
The front elevation faces west and includes a boarded timber door with a two-pane fanlight, flanked by windows in the outer bays. There is a timber fascia board on the left that reads 'FIDDICHSIDE INN'. The roof features two pedimented dormer windows at the outer bays and a small rooflight in the center. To the left, there is a later low, flat-roofed bay, and to the right, a small lean-to outside toilet.
Inside, the bar measures 3 by 4.5 meters and includes a cast iron fireplace with a copper hood in a timber surround, timber boarding to the dado, an original panelled counter, and a simple three-bay back gantry. A timber staircase runs north-south across the house.
The windows are timber sash and case with a four-pane glazing pattern, and the dormers at the front elevation have top-opening windows. The roof is covered with grey slates and features tiled ridges, coped harled stacks with cans, and evidence of thackstanes. The skews are ashlar-coped.
