Description
Macdowall Bridge in Arndilly, built between 1830 and 1840, is a mixed granite rubble bridge featuring three spans. It has tooled and polished ashlar granite dressings. The bridge includes a tall central arch ring made of tooled granite, with tall narrow flood arches on either side. There is blocked detailing on the bandcourses, and the end piers are rusticated ashlar, with a central pilaster strip that ends in a square cap, which decorates the tooled ashlar parapet cope. The approaches to the bridge are curved and splayed. The approximate spans of the bridge are 10 feet, 40 feet, and 10 feet.
