Description
Kinermony House, built around 1900, is designed in the Scottish Renaissance style by architect James Leslie Findlay. This two-storey house with an attic features an irregular five-bay south front and three-storey flanks and rear, situated on a steeply sloping site. The exterior is harled with tooled sandstone ashlar margins and dressings.
The south front includes a three-bay block with a slightly advanced two-bay gabled wing to the left (southwest). The central door of the three-bay portion has an ashlar doorpiece with sidelights and is accessed by a flight of steps that oversails the basement. To the left, there is an ashlar canted window at the basement and ground floor levels. The first floor has three windows that break the wallhead under sandstone gablets, while the southwest wing has regular fenestration.
The irregular gabled rear features a canted bay window that rises to full height, with 12-pane glazing and detailing on the coped ridge and wallhead stacks. The crowstepped gables and slated roofs add to the character of the building.
Inside, the house has a restrained interior with original wooden lugged chimney pieces and tiled surrounds in the ground floor public rooms. Surrounding the property is a buttressed brick garden wall that is partially intact.
