Description
Crooks Mill is an 1895 meal mill, built upon earlier fabric. The building is a double-gabled structure, constructed of harled and harl-pointed rubble with a timber and corrugated-iron extension to the west. A skeletal water wheel is located at the south gable, and a kiln with a louvred ridge cupola sits on the north gable. The fenestration and glazing are varied, and slate roofs cover the building.
The interior retains all original machinery, which is now powered by electricity.
Further information can be found in John Hume’s The Industrial Archaeology of Scotland ii (1977), pages 180-1, and in the Scottish Record Office RHP 12967.
