Mansion House Hotel, Blackfriars' Road, Elgin

The Mansion House Hotel, located on Blackfriars' Road in Elgin, is a large Scots Baronial mansion, likely designed by architect W. Kidner, and was remodeled and enlarged in 1882. The building features an asymmetrical form with American influences and stands two storeys high, complete with a castellated tower and a stair turret that rises an additional stage. It is constructed of bull-faced rubble with tooled ashlar dressings, a battered base course, and gabletted crowsteps.

The hotel boasts a large square porch flanked by pillars and topped with pinnacles, while the round-arched entrance is adorned with heavy cable moulding. The windows are mullion and transom sash types, featuring two, three, and four lights with plate glass glazing. The first-floor windows are topped with finialled gables, which vary in design, including straight, decorated, crowstepped, or piended styles. On the riverfront, there is a two-storey semi-circular, castellated bay. The building is capped with tall coped stacks and slate roofs.

Inside, the hotel features a half-panelled hall and a staircase with wooden turned balusters. There are also panelled and balustered radiator cases. The garden area is surrounded by a rubble wall, and there is a stone balustrade on the terrace that overlooks the River Lossie.
