Description

7-9 The Square in Cullen is a building dating from 1823, likely designed by William Robertson. It features a two-storey bowed angle block with three bays facing Seafield Street (No 36) and a three-bay bowed angle with an additional single bay that has been added later to The Square (Nos 7 and 9). The construction includes rubble with tooled ashlar margins, although there have been some modern alterations to the ground floor for shop fronts.

No 36 has a central entrance with a window to the left and regular fenestration on the first floor, which includes three windows (the center window is blind) closely set in the bowed bay that is slightly recessed and defined by margins. There is a later 19th-century canted dormer on No 36, along with a single corniced end stack and a bowed, piended slate roof.

Nos 7 and 9 The Square have recessed shop entrances flanked by shallow bowed glazed showcases that date from the 1920s. There is also a modern rubble and harled addition at the southern end (No 9).
