Description
This is a former steading and house, dated 1854 and designed by A & W Reid of Elgin. The house is a symmetrical, three-storey structure facing south, built of rubble with tooled rubble dressings. The front door is now masked by a later glazed porch, with flanking tripartite windows featuring wooden mullions. Two piended dormers have been added in the outer bays. Windows are found in the east and west gables on both the ground and first floors, featuring lying-pane glazing throughout, including in a two-window rear kitchen wing, with 12 panes in the dormers. The roof is covered in graded Banffshire slate and has coped end stacks.
A rubble-built walled garden extends to the west of the house. The former steading is a long, single-storey and loft building, now converted to garages and storage on the ground floor, and first-floor accommodation. The east-facing elevation, which faces the road, remains unaltered, with a graded Banffshire slate roof.
The site also included a Free Church which was demolished around 1940. The building retains its original glazing throughout, which is an unusual survival. The steading was converted to its current use in 1975. Further information can be found in the Annals of the Free Church and at the Moray District Record Office.
