Description
Enzie South Parish Church, designed by Marshall Mackenzie of Matthews and Mackenzie in Aberdeen in 1886, is a Gothic-style building constructed of rubble with tooled ashlar dressings. The entrance, located in the east gable, features a pointed arch and is flanked by plate-traceried windows that sit under a continuous hoodmould adorned with ball-flower stops. The entrance has double leaf plank doors fitted with decorative cast-iron hinges. Above the entrance, there is a large hoodmoulded wheel window, and the apex of the gable is topped with a bellcote.
The church has four bays along the north and south elevations, each illuminated by 3-light cusped windows that are also set beneath pointed-headed hoodmoulds. At the rear, there is a projecting vestry with a canted west gable, where each facet is lit by triple cusped lights. The vestry features moulded and pointed-headed entrances on both the north and south sides.
The building includes lattice-pane glazing and a low pulvinated string course that encircles the church. It is supported by squat clasping buttresses, and the rainwater goods are held by masked brackets. The roofs are covered with slate.
