Description
Orton Home Farm, built around 1850 and possibly designed by Thomas Mackenzie, consists of a single and two-storey range of farm buildings and cottages. The structures are made from whitewashed rubble with tooled ashlar dressings.
The farmstead is arranged in a U-plan, opening to the east and includes a later infilled covered cattle court. The symmetrical central block on the south elevation is two-storey and features three bays, with a crowstepped gablet topped by a finial.
To the west is a lower two-storey byre range, while the right side has a rubble range with modern sliding doors. The range extends to the north and includes two west-facing cart bays with basket arches.
Additionally, there are two more buildings running north to south, with the southern building featuring four basket-arched cart bays of varying heights on the west elevation. The design includes attenuated ball finials, crowsteps, and slate roofs.
