Description

Claypots Bridge, built in 1842, is a single span bridge constructed from heavily pointed rubble, featuring finely tooled ashlar dressings. The segmental arch ring, made of tooled ashlar, springs from wide abutments that are flanked and defined by tooled ashlar pilasters, which terminate in segmental caps with radial tooling. The bridge is adorned with cast-iron spearhead balustrades that connect the ashlar coped abutments. The approximate width of the bridge is 18 feet, and the span measures about 45 feet. It was built by James Reid, a mason and contractor.
