Description
Old Cullen is a 2-storey house with a symmetrical front, featuring a mix of 18th and early 19th century construction. The exterior is harled with ashlar margins, mostly painted white. The front has a U-plan layout with six bays and was raised from a single storey around 1900, likely designed by architect John Fowlie. The central entrance is concealed by a single-storey porch that has a pediment and pilasters, reflecting the style of William Robertson from 1825 to 1830. The porch contains a panelled door and narrow windows in the recessed bays. The rear of the house has projecting wings, and there is an additional single-storey wing extending to the west. The windows feature 8- and 12-pane glazing. The roof is slate, primarily piended, with coped and margined ridge and wallhead stacks.
The gatepiers, likely from the early 19th century and possibly made by Fraser's of Banff, are a pair of re-used open trellis cast-iron gatepiers topped with small apex urn finials. There are also matching spearhead carriage gates.
