Description
The Game Larder and Ice House at Mavisbank House is a single-storey structure built in the later 19th century, featuring a square plan. It is constructed from droved cream sandstone ashlar and leads to an associated ice house below, which is lined with brick and stone. The building originally had a grey slated roof with overhanging eaves, but this roof was removed around 2011.
Notable architectural features include cast iron under floor ventilator grilles, chamfered angles that transition to square at the eaves, hood moulded openings, and adjustable timber louvres. The northeast elevation has a doorway with louvres in the upper panel, while there are single louvred openings in the southeast, southwest, and northwest elevations.
Inside, there is a stone slab floor and battens that would have supported a coved plaster ceiling, although the plaster is now missing. A hole in the center of the floor leads down to the ice house.
