Description

Early 19th century. 3-storey, 5-bay Georgian tenement with 2 shops (now combined) at ground. Finely droved ashlar, painted channelled at ground floor; remaining elevations harled. Base course. Band course between ground and 1st floors. Cill course at 1st floor. Raised cills at 2nd floor. Eaves cornice and blocking course, slightly raised over centre bay.

W (SOUTH STREET) ELEVATION: corniced twin doorpiece with Ionic columns; 2 recessed modern shop doors. Broad multi-pane slightly bowed shopwindows flanking to each side; original iron canopy fixtures. Iron bracket for hanging sign to left. Regular fenestration to 1st and 2nd floors. Rendered and lined strip beyond downpipe to outer right.

S ELEVATION: acutely angled; blank.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: square stair tower at centre of E elevation; door to S and window to E above modern single storey addition. Window at 1st and 2nd floor in bay to left.

N ELEVATION: adjoined to No 21 South Street (see separate listing).

12-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows; modern glazing pattern to E elevation. Coped skews. Broad mutual stack with No 21 South Street to N. Grey slates. Small rooflight to W pitch. 2 dormer windows to E pitch. Original rainwater goods; recessed downpipe to right.

INTERIOR: cast-iron balustrade in stair tower.
