Description
This is a late 18th century walled garden, part of Vogrie House. It has a rectangular shape and is enclosed by walls with slip buttresses at the corners. The north wall is built of sandstone rubble with polished long and short quoins and flat coping. The remaining walls are of red brick, also with flat coping. Lean-to potting sheds are attached to the exterior of the north wall, and mid-19th century greenhouses are located on the interior side of the same wall. Doorways are situated along the south, west, east, and north sides, featuring polished dressings and brick relieving arches over boarded timber doors. The south wall was designed as a “hot wall”, incorporating flues to heat glasshouses situated within the garden.
