Description

2 Tynebank Cottages is an early 19th-century, 2-storey, 3-bay classical house constructed from harled sandstone with dressed ashlar rybats. The building features long and short quoins and a raised block pediment on the roadside elevation, along with an eaves cornice. There are adjoining cottages at the rear.

The northwest (principal) elevation has an advanced central bay and tripartite windows on both floors, with single windows flanking them. The southwest elevation includes a decorative panelled door on the ground floor to the left, which has an architraved stone surround, a projecting stone canopy, and stone brackets. To the right, there is a mid-floor window with a projecting plain stone surround.

The southeast elevation features a row of adjoining cottages at the rear. The northeast elevation has a modern projecting lean-to extension that conceals the original elevation. Most windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, with a fixed 12-pane window on the right return. The roof is piended with grey slate, metal ridging, and a harled stack with neck cope and four mismatched cans. The rainwater goods have been replaced.

The interior was not seen in 2000. The adjoining cottages are single-storey structures made of random rubble, with dressed ashlar window surrounds. They have a central panelled door with windows flanking it, and 12-pane wooden sash and case windows. The cottages also feature a grey slate roof with overhanging eaves and high smooth ashlar chimney stacks on the left and center, both with neck copes and a single can. The rainwater goods on these cottages have been replaced and are painted white.
