Description
This is an early 20th century cottage, with later additions to the rear, situated within the walled garden of Vogrie House. It is a single-story building, originally three bays wide and arranged in a near T-shaped plan. The walls are constructed of tooled, squared, and snecked sandstone, with smooth, dressed ashlar for detailing, and long and short quoins.
The south (principal) elevation features three bays with a near-symmetrical arrangement. A central architraved doorway is flanked by single windows. A flat-roofed single-story addition extends to the left, while a lean-to addition with a recessed circular feature—possibly a former window—is on the right.
The east elevation is largely blank, with an L-shaped lean-to addition to the left which projects in the central bay. A timber-panelled door is on the north side of this addition, and a window is positioned to the right. The north elevation was not visible in 1997 due to obstruction from portacabins.
On the west elevation, three bays are visible: a window to the outer left, an advanced bay with a window at the centre, and an advanced addition to the right with a bipartite window. A timber door is located in the re-entrant angle between the central and right bays.
The windows are timber sash and case with four panes. The roof is piended and covered with purple-grey slate, featuring cast iron rainwater goods and predominantly harled, stepped wallhead stacks with decorative cans. The interior was not inspected in 1997. A painted "1915" on a door lintel suggests a date in the early 20th century, although the building may be older.
