Description
Edgehead Lodge, formerly known as the Forester's House, is a mid-19th century single-storey, three-bay lodge designed in a T-plan, with a later rear extension. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone, featuring an earlier random rubble base, and has dressed and polished sandstone ashlar surrounds and hoodmoulds.
On the northwest (principal) elevation, there is a central doorway with rybats and smoothed ashlar margins, which is fitted with a later timber door. Flanking the doorway are single windows that have projecting sills, polished margins, and a projecting bracketed hoodmould above.
The northeast, southwest, and southeast elevations were not visible in 2000, as they are concealed behind boundary walls and vegetation.
The front elevation showcases four-pane timber sash and case bipartite windows. The roof is pyramidal with a piended grey slate covering and features zinc ridging. The building has painted cast-iron rainwater goods and two tall octagonal ashlar stacks with projecting neck copes, each topped with a single can—one plain and one replacement.
The interior was not seen in 2001.
The boundary wall and gatepiers consist of a pair of octagonal ashlar gatepiers with corniced tops and pyramidal octagonal caps. The entrance features a pair of open timber gates with long and short ogee-topped planks and cross strutting at the top, middle, and centre. Adjacent to the gates is a coursed rubble wall that transitions to a random rubble wall to the south, both topped with semi-circular stone coping.
