Description

18 Park Road in Dalkeith is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay villa constructed from squared and snecked rubble, with the south elevation pebble-dashed and featuring ashlar dressings. It has an eaves course, raised margins, and angle margins.

The principal elevation faces east and has a central door with a raised surround and a consoled pediment, featuring a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above. There is a window above the door on the first floor. The outer bays have canted windows on the ground floor, which include a cornice, blocking course, and a leaded half-piend roof. The first floor in the outer bays has bipartite windows.

The west elevation, facing Park Road, features a tripartite stair window at the center, with a small window below on the left and another window on the right at ground level. There are additional windows at ground and first floor levels in the outer bays.

On the north elevation, there is a window at both ground and first floor levels on the left side. The south elevation has a modern window at the center of the first floor. There is a screen wall running south adjoining to the left and a harled wall adjoining to the right.

The villa has sash and case windows with a six-pane glazing pattern, and plate glass in the canted windows. The roof is a combination of piend and platform styles, with shouldered wallhead stacks at the center of the north and south elevations, retaining their original cans.

The property is enclosed by boundary walls that include a coal hatch to the street, complemented by stop-chamfered pyramidal-capped square piers.
