Description
Scott's Dry Dock with Outer Basin is an early 19th-century structure that was extended to the south during the second half of the 19th century. The dry dock is oblong, measuring approximately 110 meters long and 20 meters wide, featuring a semi-octagonal southern end and stepped sides. It has later steel gates and an outer basin to the north, constructed from sandstone ashlar. There are two steeply sloped ramps on each side of the dock, and iron rings are positioned at regular intervals along the cobbled quayside. The site also contains remains of cast-iron operating machinery, including a capstan marked with a maker's plate from Stothert & Pitt of Bath. The rectangular outer basin, which has been partly filled in on the eastern side, has an entrance to the Clyde that measures roughly 20 meters.
