Househill

The Old Stables at Househill is a large T-plan house originally built in the mid to late 18th century and later recast in the mid to late 19th century. The building features harled walls with tooled ashlar dressings and stands two storeys tall with an attic over a raised basement. The original three-bay house is obscured by a large later projecting three-bay wing of similar height.

A later square projecting porch with a shaped parapet is approached by a flight of steps that includes a stone balustrade and a terminal pier topped with a ball finial. The south gable has a canted bay, with a tripartite window above, and features a shaped gable along with side gablet stacks. There is also a canted oriel in the east gable. At the rear, a central projecting semi-circular stairwell is complemented by a mid to late 19th-century corbelled caphouse addition that mirrors the gable detailing found at the front. Some original 12-pane glazing remains, and there are extensive single-storey additions at the rear, gableted dormers, broad end stacks, and a slate roof.

The stables consist of a single storey and attic, forming a three-bay stable and carriage house range, with a later single bay wing to the west that creates an L-plan court. This section is constructed of harl pointed rubble with ashlar dressings. It features a central front gablet topped with a finial and weathervane above a long hay loft door. To the left are two depressed arched carriage houses, while the stables are located to the right. Two piended dormers rise through the eaves, and there are end and ridge corniced stacks, all under slate roofs.
