Description
The Walled Garden at Inverness Royal Academy War Memorial Hostel was originally built in 1821. It is a large, plain L-shaped block constructed from squared rubble and stands three storeys tall, featuring a distinctive bowed south-west corner with tripartite windows and a bowed dormer. An east block was added in 1846 by George Rhind, made of ashlar with a rusticated basement and quoins. This section is two storeys and an attic, with a three-bay front where the left-hand bay is advanced and features a pedimented ground floor tripartite bay window, along with an Ionic portico and a slated roof. There is a modern addition connected by a bridge. The Stable Block is harled with ashlar dressings, consisting of one storey and an attic. It includes a stable door, three windows, and two doors on the ground floor, with five piended wallhead dormers in the attic, and a central loft opening. The property also includes a walled garden.
