Description
Kilchoan Square Burial Ground, located in Knoydart, is a square enclosure defined by dry stone walls. It contains three recumbent tombs featuring Celtic decorative detailing. Within the burial ground, which is now heavily overgrown, sits a stone font or piscina. The burial ground was traditionally used for Roman Catholic burials and occupies the site of an earlier chapel, as shown on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1875. Further information is provided in Frederick Odo Blundell’s The Catholic Highlands of Scotland, volume ii (1917), pages 68-9.
