Description
King's Stable Cottage is a mid-18th century rubble cottage, largely reconstructed. It is a single-story, three-bay building with turf gables at the southwest and northeast ends. An entrance is located in the eastern outer bay, and there is a projecting gabled wing in the centre with a small window. The roof is thatched with heather and features a wooden ridge stack in the centre. The cottage stands within King's Stable hollow and is known to have existed in 1746, being in use at the time of the Battle of Culloden. The parish boundary between Croy and Dalcross parishes runs along the lane leading to the cottage. The cottage was previously designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM 968), but this designation was removed on January 23, 2002.
